Umfangreiche und hochspezialisierte Ausstellungssammlung von 215 Briefen und Ganzsachen auf 128 Ausstellungsblättern, welche die Postgeschichte Lettlands während der Königlich-schwedischen Post (bis 1710), der Herzoglich-kurländischen Post (bis 1795), der Zaristisch-russischen Post bis 1902 sowie der Wendenschen Kreispost (1863-1903) dokumentieren. Diese beeindruckende und einzigartige Kollektion beinhaltet über 50 unfrankierte Briefe der Vorphilazeit, gefolgt von 26 Briefen, die mit ein, zwei oder drei Exemplaren der ersten russsischen 10 Kop.-Marke von 1857/58 frankiert sind (inklusive ERSTTAGSBRIEF von Wolmar, Briefe mit Paar bzw. Dreierstreifen, etc.; 27 Atteste, meist von Mikulski), dann über 80 Briefe, welche mit gezähnten russischen Marken späterer Ausgaben frankiert sind (u.a. mit Einschreiben etc., Destinationen wie Singapur (1896), Briefe der Wendenschen Kreispost, und viele interessante Stücke mehr), sowie über 50 Ganzsachen inklusive fünf frühen russischen Umschlägen (1848/1863), die in Lettland verwendet wurden. EINE ÜBERAUS BEDEUTENDE KOLLEKTION DER LETTISCHEN POSTGESCHICHTE mit zahlreichen seltenen Stücken, Raritäten und Unikaten. Sie wurde vielfach ausgestellt und gewann in Stockholm (1986), Kopenhagen (1987) und Helsinki (1988) Groß-Gold. Seitdem wurde sie neun Jahre lang in den verschiedenen Championship-Klassen gezeigt.
LATVIA: FORERUNNERS 1640-1902
Comprehensive and specialized exhibition collection of 215 covers, cards and postal stationeries, on 128 exhibition pages, representing the wide range of Latvian postal history during the Royal Swedish period (till 1710), the Ducal Kurland post (till 1795), the Tsarist Russian post (till 1902) and the Wenden local post 1863-1903. The collection contains more than 50 stampless covers (1640/1840) with mostly different Latvian postmarks, followed by 26 covers franked with one, two or three examples (incl. pair and strip of three) of Russian first 10k. stamp imperforated (1857/58; 27 certificates by Mikulski mostly), with one FIRST DAY COVER from Wolmar (Valmiera), more than 80 covers franked with Russian stamps of later issues (including destinations like Singapore), some from Wenden, and more than 50 postal stationeries including five Russian 1848/63 envelopes used in Latvia. A MOST IMPORTANT COLLECTION OF LATVIAN POSTAL HISTORY with a firework of scarce rare and unique items. It was exhibited several times winning Large Gold at Stockholm (1986), Kopenhagen (1987) and Helsinki (1988), and was shown for nine years in the Championship class.

Beginnend mit zwei Probedrucken zeigt diese beeindruckende Kollektion die verschiedenen Wertstufen der verschiedenen Druckperioden, vom 1. Münchner Druck (10 Marken, dabei u.a. drei Einzelmarken 5 Rp., 10 Rp. auf Brief, 6 Atteste) bis zum letzten Berner Druck, sowie rund 40 Briefe (u.a. Brief 1856 nach New York mit 40 Rp., 20 Rp. und 5 Rp. (A- bzw. B-Ausgabe) oder 10 Rp. auf Seidenpaier mit 5 Rp. auf Fahrpostbrief nach Mendrisio), dabei viele Farbnuancen, Paare und Streifen, besondere Stempel (u.a. diverse Typen an Stabstempeln oder Tessiner Strahlenstempel), Klischeefehler und Abarten, seltene Marken wie 1 Fr. auf Seidenpapier (Zu. 27Eb, Attest Renggli) usw., in meist guter/sehr guter Qualität. Deeply specialised collection of the 3rd Medaillon issue, comprising more than 1.500 stamps (incl. units). This marvellous collection shows all the distinctive features of this popular issue like different papers (thickness, ribbed paper), colours/shades, plates, varieties, plate flaws, marginal and corner copies, superb copies with parts of adjoining stamps, units up to blocks of 4 (also on cover)/strip of 4, watermark positions, sheet margin sets, paper folds (incl. very distinctive ones), plate stages/printings, a great diversity of numeral cancellations (8bar, 14bar, 17bar, 18bar, railroad, points), also a nice section covers with attractive frankings and rates, incl. a cover dated 4 Jan 1851 (which leads to the conclusion that this issue must have been available to the public in the latter part of 1850) etc. Undoubtfully an outstanding and most valuable collection!

BRITISH INDIA – POSTMARKS OF TRAVELLING POST OFFICES 1860-1890
The Volker G. Grossmann collection of ALL (perhaps except one) actually known cancellations and marks of Indian railway from 1860 to 1890, well written up on 84 exhibition pages, with more than 200 covers, cards and postal stationeries, few part covers/pieces and two stamps bearing almost all the various railway datestamps, markings and handstamps recorded and known up today. This collection was built during decades on the basis of the known literature (Jal Cooper, D.R. Martin a.o.) and V.G. Grossmann's own reserches worldwide, and he could completed the collection by items from other famous collection recently. As a result, this became the only complete (or best to complete) collection of Indian railway cancellations at the actual status of knowledge. It contains the various cancellations of the various provinces, the more generell ones (planned for use in all parts of India), the markings and other handstamps, including all the (actually) unique or extremely rare items, a number of scarce early MISSENT TO ... and other handstamps, and many more.

1941/1945 - NEW ZEALAND PRISONER OF WAR AEROGRAMMES: One frame award-winning collection of 28 P.O.W. air letter sheets with mint (11) AND used copies of all the nine issues (with or without watermark), and first P.O.W. aerogramme issued 1941 in GB. Has varieties like inverted overprint of SIXPENCE on 1s. (7th issue 1944, 2 recorded), and P.O.W. mail to Germany (mostly), Italy, England (only recorded use to civilian) or to Japan (only recorded copy of any issue) with a lot of specials like censor marks, 'Stalag' cachets, returned mail, etc. Includes one of 5 recorded POW Postcards used to Java. Condition throughout is unusually fine for inbound POW mail. Scarce aerogrammes.

A very interesting accumulation of mostly spectacular EFO's.

Collection on 34 sheets including an essay of the US stamp “2 C. Ski jumping” which is the only special stamp worldwide for these Olympics. Also included are documents with signatures of Jack Shea, Karl Schaefer, Fritzi Burger and many more! This collection is leading over to the Winter Olympics 1980 in Lake Placid, amongst others you will find a signature of R.M. Cunningham who designed the Lake Placid stamp in 1980 and of the surrounding of other winter games. Everything is characterised in detail and competently commented, texts in English. Lovely collection!
III. WINTEROLYMPIADE IN LAKE PLACID / USA, NEW YORK - 1932
Ausstellungssammlung auf 34 Blättern. Enthalten ist unter anderem ein Essay für die US-Marke 2 C. Skispringer, der einzigen Sondermarke weltweit zu dieser Olympiade, sowie Belege mit Original-Unterschriften von Jack Shea, Karl Schaefer, Fritzi Burger u.a.! Die Sammlung leitet über zur Winter-Olympiade in Lake Placid 1980, dabei z.B. die Original-Unterschrift von R. M. Cunningham, dem Designer der Lake Placid-Marken von 1980 und aus dem Umfeld anderer Winterspiele. Alles ist ausführlich dokumentiert und sachkundig kommentiert (Texte in Englisch). Ein schönes Objekt!
