Issue of the stamp booklet with 4 different definitive postage stamps
THEY BROUGHT FREEDOM
On the 20th January, 2015 the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic will issue a self-adhesive stamp booklet with 4 different definitive postage stamps with imprinted letter „A“ from the issue „They brought freedom. The letter „A“ corresponds to the price of an ordinary domestic letter – standard to 50 g in accordance with the Price list of basic postal services in the current version – at present amounting to CZK 13.
On 4 different self-adhesive stamps are depicted these military vehicles: (a) the Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk IXE aircraft, (b) the T-34/76,2 tank, (c) the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and (d) the Jeep Ford GPW car.
Pavel Sivko was born on the 24th January, 1948 in Prague. He studied at the Art School in Prague (1963-67) and at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (1967-73) where he studied applied graphic art and illustration with Professor Jiří Trnka and Professor Zdeněk Sklenář. He worked as an art editor in Mladá Fronta publishing house (1991-97). Since 1997, he has been teaching at Václav Hollar Art School in Prague 3. He mostly concentrates on illustrations, drawings, free and applied graphic art, stamp design and animated film. He lives in Prague.
Václav Zapadlík was born on the 23rd September, 1943 in Prague. He spent the first half of his life as a professional jazz bassist. In the 1960s, he started painting vintage cars. After several years, his drawings attracted the attention of the whole world. He cooperated with the Blackhawk Automotive Museum, a prestigious car museum, his work is exhibited in San Francisco and in Pebble Beach. Since 2010, he has been drawing veteran cars, motorbikes, draisines for Czech Post. The series of booklets “World Cars” and “Czech Cars” based on his drawings became very popular. He lives in Prague.
The author of the graphic design of the tank, motorcycle and of the car is Václav Zapadlík. The author of the graphic design of the aircraft and the graphic arrangement of the booklet is Pavel Sivko.
The stamps, sized 50 x 29 mm will be printed by the Post Printing House in Prague by multicoloured offset and will be issued in a self-adhesive stamp booklet of two pieces of each stamp.
The front page of the booklet features the same military vehicles as the stamps: the Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk. IXE aircraft, the T-34/76,2 tank, the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and the Jeep Ford GPW car. The booklet contains eight (2x4) stamps. The back page contains texts about the authors and their self-portraits and signatures, a barcode, Czech Post’s logo and hologram used as a security feature.
There will be 4 First Day Covers incl. commemorative cancellations. In the picture part of the covers are depicted the same military vehicles as on the stamps: (a) the Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk. IXE aircraft, (b) the T-34/76,2 tank, (c) the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and (d) the Jeep Ford GPW car. The covers are printed by offset in black. On the postmarks are depicted a) the lion emblem and the text: Praha, 20. 1. 2015, b) the tank wheel and the text: Ostrava, 20. 1. 2015, c) the Harley-Davidson logo and the text: Strakonice, 20. 1. 2015 and d) the Jeep logo and the text: Plzeň, 20.1.2015.
The stamps are valid from 20th January, 2015.
